Studying how youth develop in a diverse society

I am an Assistant Professor in Youth & Family Studies at the Department of Psychology, Education and Child Studies at Erasmus University Rotterdam.

My research spans the fields of developmental and social psychology, as well as family and education studies.

I study how youth learn about and experience culture, ethnicity, and racism in their families, schools, and online. With this knowledge, I aim to understand how the well-being and healthy development of youth with diverse backgrounds can be supported. My other line of research explores how adults respond to social change and navigate racism. I also collaborate closely with policy makers and other stakeholders who seek to improve the inclusivity of education and science. 

My work has been published in Child Development, Developmental Psychology, and the Journal of Marriage and Family, among other outlets. For more information on my scholarly work, see my publications.

Currently, I serve as a Consulting Editor for two journals: Cultural Diversity & Ethnic Minority Psychology of the American Psychological Association (APA), and the Dutch-language journal Jeugd in Ontwikkeling [Youth in Development].

In addition, I am a co-initiator and co-host of the podcast Joy in Academia with other emerging racialized scholars based in the Netherlands and Belgium.
